ventolin

Ventolin is a short-acting beta agonist that is commonly prescribed as a rescue inhaler for acute symptoms. Though one generic, Proair has been available for several years, new generic versions produced by GlaxoSmithKline have been approved by the FDA. With more new options entering the market, prices for quick-relief inhalers may drop overall. ProAir HFA or Ventolin Inhaler is available in a generic form called albuterol sulfate. Ventolin HFA is FDA-approved to prevent and treat bronchospasm in people with asthma. It’s approved for this use in adults and children ages 4 years and older.

Ventolin HFA, ProAir HFA, and Proventil HFA are each an example of this type of inhaler. But it is often only used as needed for symptoms of bronchospasm. If you and your doctor determine that ProAir is safe and effective for you, you’ll likely use it long term to treat or help prevent bronchospasm. This means it’s meant to be used to treat or prevent sudden breathing problems caused by bronchospasm.

You should also throw away the inhaler if it’s expired , even if there’s still medication inside the device. Other interactions can increase side effects or make them more severe. Ventolin HFA can interact with several other medications.

This date is typically 1 year from the date they dispensed the medication. If you’ve had an allergic reaction to ProAir or any of its ingredients, you should not use ProAir. Ask your doctor what other medications are better options for you. If you have thyroid problems, such as an overactive thyroid, talk with your doctor before you start using ProAir. Using the medication can make your thyroid condition worse.

Other interactions can increase the number of side effects or make them more severe. It can also interact with certain supplements as well as certain foods. All three forms of ProAir inhalers come in a strength of 90 micrograms per puff. Your doctor may adjust your dose over time to reach the amount that’s right for you.

The expiration date helps guarantee that the medication is effective during this time. The current stance of the Food and Drug Administration is to avoid using expired medications. If you have unused medication that has gone past the expiration date, talk with your pharmacist about whether you might still be able to use it.
